Also the Municipality of Letojanni adheres to World Drowning Prevention Day, established by the UN for July 25. An important opportunity to promote the culture of safety at sea and the prevention of aquatic accidents, in which citizens and tourists are invited to participate through the information and demonstration initiative. “Blue Flag: safe at sea”, scheduled next Friday, July 25th, on the free beach of Baglio neighborhood near the municipal rescue tower.
The event is promoted by FEE in all 246 Italian municipalities that have achieved the Blue Flag: “World Drowning Prevention Day – explain the promoters – is a WHO initiative that follows the UN Resolution of April 2021 and which aims to highlight the tragic and profound impact of drowning and to offer lifesaving prevention strategies”.
The initiative's program will begin at 9:30 a.m. with greetings from the Municipal Administration, followed by technical demonstrations of sea rescue by the "Corpo Volontario di Soccorso in Mare" Association, recreational activities on the beach, and awareness-raising and information activities on the day's topic. Volunteers from the Universal Civil Service who serve the Municipality of are also collaborating on the initiative and will participate in the event. Letojanni, the sports associations ASD Sport Volley Letojanni, ASD Letogiovani Robur and APS Pro Loco Letojanni together with their SCU Volunteers.
"Every drowning is preventable. Solutions exist," reads the FEE statement, which calls for wide publicity about the event. "Raising awareness of the issue of lifesaving, the guarantee of which is a mandatory criterion of the Blue Flag Program, is essential for truly raising public awareness of a proper and safer relationship with the sea."
